Linda's Thoughts on October 9, 2009

The Friday Letter:
I am sharing again last week's Friday Letter with everyone (see below). This letter is sent out weekly by the City Administrator to inform the City Council of what has happen during the week.

Friday Letter: October 9, 2009

1. DuPont Tree Board Views Tree Issues
The DuPont Tree Board went on a field trip on October 6, 2009 to view some of the tree related problems and challenges which face the City. The Tree Board was created by the City Council this year to provide guidance on an urban forestry plan for the City. Among the issues which the Board will discuss is the care of street trees and their impact on streets and sidewalks. There are two open positions on the Tree Board. If you are interested in serving on the Tree Board please contact Bill McDonald at 964-8121 for more information.

2. McDonald’s Restaurant Design Decision
The McDonald’s commercial design decision was issued October 8. It is posted on the City website under Planning Department, Decisions and Staff Reports. City staff is working closely with the new owners to help them meet their goal of breaking ground this year. The only remaining items are some technical corrections to details of their civil engineering drawings which should be completed very quickly.

3. Shoreline Plan Update Status
Work continues on the DuPont Shoreline Plan update. The Planning Agency examined the draft 2010 public involvement schedule at their September 28 meeting and scientists are starting their review of existing background data as required by the Ecology grant. The October 12th Planning Agency meeting has been cancelled.

4. Parking for Sequalitchew Trail Users
Parking is no longer allowed on the private property under the Powerline right of way. The temporary easement granted by Quadrant on June 1, 2009 allowing the public to park under the Powerline to access the Sequalitchew Trail expired on October 1, 2009. The public should park at the Civic Center and use the gravel trail connection from City Hall to access the Sequalitchew Creek Trail.

5. Budget Meetings Begin
The Mayor, Council, and Management Team met on October 6th for the first of a series of meetings on the 2010 Budget. The next meeting will be October 20th at 6PM at City Hall. Preparation of the Mayor’s Proposed 2010 City Budget has been a staff priority for the last month. The severity of the recession with its impact on budget revenues makes the 2010 Budget one of the most difficult that we faced.
